Dr. Hamer’s father opened the original Hamer Orthodontics. After seeing his father’s love for creating smiles, Dr. David Hamer was inspired to pursue a career in orthodontics.
With more than 30 years of sharing the joy of beautiful smiles, expert orthodontist Dr. Hamer serves children, teens, and adults of Charlottesville and Crozet, VA.
Education & Experience
Dr. David. B Hamer graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts. He then continued his education at the Medical College of Virginia Commonwealth University and earned his dental degree. Finally, Dr. Hamer completed his Orthodontic Residency at Columbia University.
As orthodontics evolve, Dr. Hamer stays updated on the latest technology and materials to provide the best treatment options available. He understands your unique needs and will create a treatment plan made just for you and your smile.

Dr. Hamer is an Invisalign® Diamond Plus Provider and is in the top 1% of the country. He's also received extra training from additional continuing education, so you know you're in talented hands. That means you don't want to see anyone else for your Invisalign treatment.
Dr. Hamer is honored to receive the Virginia Living Magazine 2018 “Top Dentist” Award.
He also received Silver in the 2018 OurHealth Bedside Manner Awards for orthodontics.
In Our Community
Dr. Hamer is an active board member for the Department of Medical Assistance Services in Richmond and is also vice president of the Board for the Community Children’s Dental Center, a nonprofit dental center serving Medicaid children and other children in need.
He also maintains professional memberships with the following organizations:

Outside the Office
When he's not creating beautiful smiles, Dr. Hamer enjoys spending time outdoors with his family and dogs, especially skiing, boating and hiking.
He and his wife are big music fans and love going to the Jazz Fest in New Orleans.
Dr. Hamer enjoys practicing and living in Charlottesville because of the four distinct seasons, each one offering different and fun activities.
