First Orthodontic Visit

When you choose to pursue orthodontic care, it can be both an exciting and slightly overwhelming time. Orthodontics can change your life for the better in many ways, and that’s certainly something worth celebrating! But it’s also not unusual to feel a little bit anxious, especially if you aren’t exactly sure what to expect from the treatment process ahead.

It’s important to us at Hamer and Glassick Orthodontics that you feel confident in our practice, and that starts from the moment we meet you. Your initial consultation in either our Charlottesville or Crozet office is one of the most important appointments you’ll have, and we work hard to make it an experience that’s positive and stress-free. We believe that it shouldn’t cost you anything to come in and meet us to find out what your treatment options are and approximately how much your total investment would be, so our consultations are 100% complimentary! Let’s take a look at what you can expect from this first FREE orthodontic visit – and what happens beyond.

The first step in your orthodontic journey

You’ll always receive a warm welcome from our staff when you walk in the door, and that begins at your first visit. After you’ve been greeted, you’ll be given a short tour of the office and introduced to some of our talented team. We’ll then move on to taking a couple of x-rays and photos for our diagnostic records. We will also utilize our state-of-the-art 3D Itero scanner to help take a true “tour” of your smile and bite to help visualize your current state and what you can expect from treatment in our office. Following this, Dr. Hamer or Dr. Glassick will perform a thorough oral examination.

We want all of our patients to be informed partners in the treatment process, so we’re committed to making sure you understand each and every step of your orthodontic journey. You should never feel as though you’re being rushed or like your questions have gone unanswered. Once your exam has been completed, we’ll sit down with you and discuss a variety of topics related to your particular case, including:

  • Any oral issues you’re experiencing that orthodontics can address
  • If treatment is needed immediately or if it would be better to delay it
  • What treatment options we have available to correct the problem
  • An estimate of how long we expect your treatment to take
  • The total estimated financial investment
  • Any payment or financing options we have available to you

We don’t believe in “one size fits all” orthodontic treatment here. Instead, we analyze the specific needs of each patient to consistently produce a better overall experience and superior results. Our doctors will create a personalized treatment plan for you that is based on your smile, lifestyle, and goals.

Investing in a healthier, straighter smile

Once you’ve decided on a treatment plan with one of our doctors, we’ll talk you through the investment needed for your new smile. The total cost will vary from case to case, as every orthodontic patient has their own unique needs and will respond to treatment in their own way. However, we will ensure you understand all the associated costs of treatment before we move on to the next step in your journey.

Our office believes that every patient deserves the high-quality orthodontic care they need, and it’s our mission to provide you with affordable treatment options that can comfortably fit within your budget. We also have a wide variety of payment options to fit your needs. Currently, we accept all major credit cards and offer multiple financing options. Discounts are available by joining our 9-3 Club, and if your insurance covers orthodontic treatment, our team will be happy to file your claims for you.

Keep in mind that many insurance policies have a lifetime orthodontic benefit that is distinct from regular dental insurance. Insurance policies do vary, and we will always review your insurance to determine the best course of action before treatment begins to ensure you get the most out of your available coverage!

The next steps in the orthodontic process

After your consultation is complete, we’ll schedule an appointment for you to receive your new orthodontic appliance, be it braces or Invisalign. You’ll also be scheduled for follow-up appointments with us once every eight to ten weeks throughout the treatment process. During these appointments, we’ll adjust your appliance if necessary, and check that your treatment plan is progressing as it should be.

These visits are an essential part of your treatment, and it’s important that you don’t skip them. That said, we know life isn’t always predictable. While we do our best to schedule appointments so that they’re convenient for you, you may find yourself unexpectedly running late or unable to make it to the office. If this happens, we simply ask that you let us know as soon as possible. We’ll reschedule you so that your treatment doesn’t fall behind!
